MBF's return to the championship after a ten-year hiatus ended in fifth place and retaining their place in the series without qualifying.

Reaching the top four in the finals was still possible in the last round, but TuKa took fourth place by beating Oulu 4-3.

– Our trio Lassi Lehtola, Johan Pettersson and Leon Viherlaiho fought brilliantly to three wins in the final round, taking almost maximum points, says team manager Thomas Hallbäck.

– Lassi was a certainty himself, winning all his matches, Leon, who made his Finnish Championship debut, fought for an important victory in every team match, and Johan, who had flu symptoms, also brought important victories.

In the penultimate round against KoKa, Pettersson lost a match in the fifth set in a tiebreaker that would have put the team just one point away from fourth place. Of course, there were several tight games earlier as well, which left room for speculation. The ball is round…

However, in the finals, it turned out that the fight for fourth place was largely decided by the Turku team getting to face the “reserve” Oulu twice, taking 5 series points from the matches, when Oulu with its first-team squad twice left MBF to nil. MBF, in turn, beat TuKa 4-3 in both matches.

– This was a good season for our club's upward-oriented activities and leaves ample room for raising the target for next season, says Hallbäck.
