Beginner competitions are intended for players who are at the beginning of their table tennis careers.
The primary school championships also have a competition series in which more advanced players can participate.
The competition is aimed at primary school students, i.e. children and young people aged 7-12. The competitions are suitable for both those who have only played table tennis a little and those who have already progressed further. Players are divided into suitable groups in the competition according to their skill levels at the decision of the organiser. The aim is to organise one or more classes for girls. The aim is to organise several matches for each child in a pool-style competition.
In 2025, the Helsinki German School won the school championship. Magnus Jackson (Hoplaxskolan) won the individual category.
It is possible that the competition will also use continuation games after the pools. The “best of five” game format will be used in the categories. The organizer will make decisions on the division of categories and the way of playing in each category.
The competitions are organized as separate categories: singles and doubles. A player can play in the singles category, the doubles category, or both. Prizes are awarded separately in both categories.
For the four-player categories, the player can find their own playing partner or ask the tournament organizer to find a partner according to their availability.
It is hoped that clubs will teach children the rules of doubles (e.g. serving rules, scoring, and serving order) before the competition. This will help significantly in the running of the competition.

Time: Saturday, August 29.8.2026, 10.00. Games will start at XNUMX:XNUMX AM in the beginner classes.
A more detailed schedule of the games will be sent to those who have registered on the Thursday before the competition, 27.8 August. If there are a large number of players participating in the competition, the games can start as early as 9.00:XNUMX, but not earlier. We aim to organize the games as efficiently as possible and avoid unnecessary waiting by all means. The goal is to play the competition through in such a way that children's singles games are played first in the morning and doubles games immediately after. The more detailed scheduling of the games naturally depends on the number of registered players and how many different classes we decide to play.
Game ball: Good quality practice balls specified by the organizers, which come on behalf of the competition organizer.

License: Players do not need to have a competition license. Players do not receive rating points based on competitions.

Judging: The games are refereed by the organizing club's own staff, together with the parents of the players participating in the competitions.

Encouragement sheets: Feel free to bring paper cheering sheets with you. They can be attached to the play fences with masking tape.
PTS Sherwood Junior Cup
In this competition, children representing different clubs compete for the trophy “PTS Sherwoodin Junnu Cup” to be awarded to the best club. The competition between the clubs is decided by the success of the players. In each singles and doubles category, the winner receives points according to the number of participants in that category, the second-place finisher receives one point less, the third-place finisher receives two points less, and so on, so that the last participant in the category also receives one point for their club. If there are several pools in a category, and only the winners of these pools play in the next games, the organizer decides the amount of points to be given to the other participants. At the end of the day, the points received by the different clubs are added up. If the same pair represents two different clubs in the doubles category, the points received by the players are divided in half for both represented clubs.
