MBF received a second berth in the “Junnu Cup” beginner competition
Nearly thirty children and young people competed in the competitions organized by PTS Sherwood and MBF in Ruskeasuo lon Monday, August 24, 2024. The rating limit was set at around 800 so that everyone would have suitable level of playmates.
PTS Sherwood's coveted "Junnu Cup" went to MBF in this fifth tournament.
Five girls and 22 boys competed in age groups with parents acting as judges and cheering on the eager juniors. There were as many players as in the fourth beginner competition.
PTS Sherwood's Sohvi Vuorinen won the girls' competition, Ge Anne Quinal from Sunila Sisu came in silver.
In the boys' 8-9 year old category, Eliel Laitasalo defeated Friedrich Mustonen 3-1 in the final. The finalists had trained at the EasySport table tennis camp organized by MBF in Ruoskeasuo during the summer, but have not yet joined a table tennis club. Therefore, this is a particularly noteworthy performance!
In the boys' 10-11 year old class final, MBF's Magnus Jackson defeated his teammate and Leon Blomberg 3-1 and, like in the last competitions, won.
Linus Lundström of MBF for boys over 12 won the match without losing a set. In the final, teammate Joona Rauvola held Linus tight in the second set.
Linus Lundström and Magnus Jackson won the doubles. PTS Sherwood's Viola Saarto and Sohvi Vuorinen, who came in second, put up a tough fight, but had to give in 3-1.
A beginner's competition is an excellent way to get involved in the organized competition of the sport. The competition is generally just the right level and at the same time the children see how others play. There should be more of these! Junior clubs should also cooperate more and participate in each other's competitions. MBF and Sherwood are a prime example of this. – Esko Heikkinen
Parents were invaluable in helping us get through the competition. Although the young players know how to calculate the points, parents' help was needed in recording them. Everyone encouraged each other in a good spirit. Unfortunately, there were problems with the schedule this time. This will be fixed in the next competitions.
