Hankö IK kontaktade MBF i seluet av maj och frågade om vi var intersierente att ta över klubbens plats i FM series. Marina Donner and Johan Pettersson want to continue in the FM series and choose to move to MBF, som get the place because the duo are two of the three players who played the most in HIK last year.

Marina is Finland's best women's player and long-time Finnish champion in women's singles and doubles and has also won gold several times in mixed with Johan Pettersson. He also recently won the damsingel, double and mixed and veteran world championships for 40-year-olds. All too often, our promising juniors - such as Lassi Lehtola, Lauri Hakaste, Ella and Mia Kellow in recent times - as well as Miikka O'Connor and Mika Räsänen in the past - move to other clubs because MBF cannot offer them an opportunity to play at a sufficiently high level. Marina Donner and Johan Pettersson want to continue in the SM series and move to MBF, which will get the place, as the duo are two of the three players who played the most in HIK last year.
“We are happy that Johan and Marina decided to join our association and that MBF is playing in the Finnish Championship again,” Chairman Matti Vainio.
The MBF board was immediately excited about the opportunity and stated that the association must take care of arranging the necessary financial resources. It is important to get a team from Helsinki to the Finnish Championship, and it is nice that a Finnish-Swedish team is involved and competing with the best clubs in Finland.

"MBF still needs one or two top players to complete the Finnish Championship team. We are looking for potential players, preferably from Finland, and we hope that those interested in playing for MBF will contact us,” Team leader Thomas Hallbäck.
Marina is Finland's best female player and a long-time Finnish champion in both women's singles and doubles, and has won gold several times in mixed doubles with Johan Pettersson. She recently won the world championship in women's singles and doubles over 40, as well as in mixed doubles. She has had an exceptional journey to the top of Finnish table tennis, which Helsingin Sanomat recently wrote about “A unique journey to become the Finnish champion".

Boost for junior activities
Thanks to the SM series place, MBF now has teams at all league levels. It gives MBF juniors the opportunity to reach the top in their own club. Too often, our promising juniors – such as Lassi Lehtola, Lauri Hakaste, Ella and Mia Kellow recently – and previously Miikka O'Connor and Mika Räsänen – have moved to other clubs because MBF was unable to offer them the opportunity to play at a sufficiently high level. The SM series place gives an important boost to MBF's already expanded junior activities, which are supported, among others, by the Ministry of Education and Culture through the “Stadin junnupingis kondiseen” project.

To finance MBF's team in the championship, MBF is asking its friends to support the club's expansion by joining something we call “Friends of MBF”.
Since its founding in 1969, MBF has always taken care of junior activities. The club has played in the Finnish Championship three times, in 1978-80, 1990-92 and 2010-14.
