Beginner competitions in Kerava 17.5.2025
Table tennis clubs Sherwood and MBF will organize children's and adults' starting competitions in Kerava on Saturday, May 17, 2025.
The competition is intended for children and adults who are just starting out in table tennis. Separate competition classes will be organized for both of them during the day.
For children, the age limit is a maximum of 15 years old in 2025. This means that a child born in 2010 can still participate in the children's category in these competitions.
The child is at the beginning of their playing career or has already played a little in competitions. The rating limit for competitions is a maximum of approximately 750 points on the day of the competition. Players are divided into appropriate groups in the competition according to their skill levels.
according to the organizer's decision. The aim is to organize one or more classes for girls. The aim is to organize several matches for each child in a pool-style competition.
All beginner players over the age of 15 who have no rating or a rating of less than 750 points are allowed to play in the adult category. Children under the age of 15 are also allowed to participate in the adult categories if they wish.
It is possible that the competition will also use continuation games after the pools. The “best of five” game format will be used in the categories. Decisions on the division of categories and the method of play in each category will be made by the organizer as soon as possible after the registration period has ended.
The competitions are organized as separate categories: singles and doubles. Players can choose to play only in the singles category, only in the doubles category, or both in the singles and doubles categories. Prizes are awarded separately in both categories.
For the doubles categories, players can find their own playing partner or ask the tournament organizer to arrange a doubles partner if possible. Clubs are encouraged to teach children the doubles rules (e.g. serving rules, scoring and serving order) before the tournament. This will help significantly in the running of the tournament.
PTS Sherwood Junior Cup
In this competition, children representing different clubs compete for the trophy “PTS Sherwoodin Junnu Cup” to be awarded to the best club. The competition between clubs is decided by the success of the players. In each singles and doubles category, the winner receives points according to the number of participants in that category, the second place in the category receives one point less, the third place receives two points less and so on, so that the last participant in the category also receives one point for his club. If there are several pools in a category, of which only the winners play in the continuation games, the organizer decides the number of points to be given to the other participants.
At the end of the day, the points received by the different clubs are added up. If in the doubles category the same pair represents two different clubs, the points received by the players are divided in half in favor of both represented clubs.

If there are a lot of players participating in the competition, the games can start as early as 9:00, but not earlier.
